Hackmatack

This year our Library has once again partner with the local elementary school, this allows us to have a larger number of participates in the Hackmatack program. The students have dug right in and have been reading for a few months. We are very fortunate to be able to run a English and French group. The students are encouraged to read and share their likes and dislikes about the titles.

During the month of December we got into the spirit of giving, put our thinking hats on and decided to make fruit baskets. Students were each assigned an item to bring to the next meeting. With these items the children were able to make 10 baskets which they donated to local seniors.

Our latest challenge is related to the book Mimi's Village: And How Basic Heath Care Transformed it by Katie Smith Milway. The students have decided to have a penny/nickel drive over the next month. The hope is that with the money raised they will be able to purchase items from the World Vision website http://www.worldvision.ca/ in order to help villages that are in need. I will keep you posted on their progress, you never know how many people their pennies will help. Very proud of my group.
